Good examples...although I'm not a big fan of 4 stringed sweeps...they always sound off to me...but important to learn nonetheless...

They always sounded off to me too, never quite liked them, but sometimes you need to do them... You seemed to work around The D arpeggios there alot, it was almost the whole lesson.

Technically it's not D, you can be all kinds of different tunings, I chose the ones I feel are easiest to work on.

I don't think that I should put anything too complicated, or people just starting out will get discouraged.

Could you explain the picking motion? I think I'm doing it right, but I'm probably wrong.

(D=Down; U=Up obviously), and I'm talking about 4-string sweeps won't give the tab/notes though...

^^I gave the same advice last lesson...great examples, but when I first started sweeping I didn't know to stop the string before and reverse direction...

I'm waiting for PICSel to approve a lesson I submitted
on how to ACTUALLY sweep. I know it must be hard to do the exercises if you don't know how to do it.
It will hopefully be up today or tomorrow if he gets back to me...

I always associate those sweeps with D though, because those are the positions I first learned them in. To me, they are the "D" shape, regardless of where they are on the fret board. I know they have different names, but to me they are D.

in avenged sevenfold they use a drop d tuning can you still do 6 string sweeps with it. is it normal to be this slow when starting it

When i started sweeping i was really slow and i really wanted to do sweeps from songs like hanger 18, the ninja, tornado of souls etc. so i played it really really slow and made sure i was doing the basic sweep motion and whenever i thought i was having trouble with a section i'd break it down and practice that. So if you feel it's slower than the original just keep practicing and try to gain accuracy first rather than speed

Oh and i think it's easier to do sweeps in drop tunings but harder to keep it cleaner correct?

Well I can't say whether or not your preferences are incorrect or not, but the "clean-ness" of your sweeps comes from how well you match your picking hand with your playing hand, it doesn't matter what tuning your in. Lower tunings make it easier to hold strings down, other than that you wont see much difference.
