very good lesson. however, another way to think about modes is like altered major or minor scales. for example, mixolydian, is just a major scale with a b7, phrygian is just the natural minor scale with a b2. dorian is a natural minor with a raised 6th. and so on. To me, this is a much easier and more convenient way to view and apply modes to the guitar.

good advice, but the main reason i'm teaching the modes is so peopel will get out of that 1st pentatonic mode and move around the neck a bit. my next lesson on scales and soloing is going to about moving diagonally instead of just linearly or across the neck like in this lesson

Amazing. This explains everything, even the degrees and the Ws and Hs, which is kinda important for newbies rather than learning positions.

I've been learning techniques for over a year but this one seems to amuse me and help me improve in scales. Thanks a lot!
